In 2006, Guy and Sarah purchased the barns as derelict agricultural buildings, beginning a journey of restoration that would preserve their unique charm. Guy carefully and thoughtfully restored the barns, maintaining the original character and quirks. These historic features are especially evident in Hideaway Barn, where details like the small 'nooks' once used to hold a farmer’s candles while tending to cattle have been preserved—though now, they are lit by electricity!
Sampson Barn entered the holiday rental market in 2015, and since then, we’ve had the pleasure of welcoming guests back for their second, third, and even fourth stays.
Hideaway Barn was updated in 2018 and opened for holiday rentals in the summer of 2019. We are delighted to welcome guests to the barn, some of whom have now stayed several times, and we’re thrilled to continue sharing its charm with guests old and new.
We pride ourselves on being completely dog-friendly—not just dog-tolerant! As dog owners ourselves, we know how important it is for your furry family members to feel just as welcome and comfortable as you do. All we ask is that if your dogs are used to lounging on the sofa or sleeping on the bed, you bring your own throws or bedding for them.
Nestled in a peaceful hamlet, the barns offer easy access to the vibrant towns of Penzance, Helston, St Ives, and Hayle. With the beach just a 5-minute drive away, you can enjoy the best of both worlds—relax by the coast and retreat to your own private space, even during the busier months.
Our housekeeping staff have always kept the barns exceptionally clean. Since the Covid-19 outbreak, staff have been fully briefed on the additional sanitising measures and this is rigorously checked by Guy in between check-out and check-in.
We thoroughly enjoyed working with guests on a 'book direct' basis. Jobs, careers, and a bit of sailing meant that we needed some help. After careful consideration, we selected Cornish Traditional Cottages to work with. They are wonderfully independent and this was very important to us having worked with the national groups before. The welcome will still be very much from us!
We offer a range of short breaks (minimum 3 nights) in the low and mid seasons. Do get in touch if you can't see the dates you are looking for and we'll see what we can do!
How many dogs can we bring?
Well that depends.....2 dogs of any size, up to 5 medium and 7 small in Hideaway or Sampson.
How secure are the gardens?
Hideaway Barn has 4ft stock fencing at its lowest points and 9ft walls at the highest!
What about flooring?
We have grey carpets in both barns - please just wipe paws on the way in. Both barns have entrance areas for this purpose and outside taps.
Sampson now has an outside warm water shower specifically for dogs.
